Best Clean Romance I’ve Ever Read

Posted on May 27, 2026May 27, 2026 by sweetcleanreads

What’s the best clean romance I’ve ever read? I’m so glad you asked! Because over the years I’ve read a lot of them, hundreds actually, and I can tell you one thing: not all clean romance is created equal.

Some of it is good, like really good. Like “stay up late into the night because you just can’t put it down” good. And some of it is, well, not that good.

I’ve done the research so you don’t have to! Now grab a cup of coffee and get reading!

7 of the Best No-Spice Romance Books I’ve Ever Read

Meet Me In The Margins by Melissa Ferguson – A delightful, laugh out loud funny rom-com. It feels like a Hallmark movie in a book AND was recently made into a movie by Great American Family.

Love Comes Softly by Janette Oake – This book is an absolute staple of the Christian historical fiction genre. This is the OG pioneer days romance and a personal favorite. Yes, this is an entire series! Yes, there is a movie based on this series, but as usual, the books are much better.

A Royal Summer by Teri Wilson – A charming and witty story about a theme park princess who falls in love with a real life prince. The perfect read for the beach this summer, then you can watch the movie on Hallmark!

The Lawyer and The Laundress by Christine Hill Suntz – I adored this cozy, heartwarming story that’s got a riches to rags then into a marriage of convenience plot line. Plenty of healing, redemption, and of course, the swooniest romance.

Beyond Ivy Walls by Rachel Fordham –

Brynn & Sebastian Hate Each Other by Bethany Turner

Midnight at The Blackbird Cafe by Heather Webber- Heather’s books tend to have a bittersweet (in the best way) tone. She focuses on themes of grief, healing, and second chances all with just a touch of magic. This is my favorite book from her and consequently her most popular, for good reason.

Bonus Tip– If you find a book on this list that you love, check that author for more titles! Every author on this list has at least one more (most of them have multiple, or even dozens) clean romance title for you to enjoy.
