I first became a fan of Sarah Monzon after I read All Is Fair in Love and Christmas. Fun fact: when it was first announced I requested an advanced copy on Net Galley and was denied!! My blog was small potatoes back then but I that book sounded so cute to me. When I finally got my hands on All if Fair In Love in Christmas I devoured it and it quickly became one of my favorite Christmas romances!
When I saw An Overdue Match go up on NetGalley, I knew I had to try to get and advanced copy. Bethany House approved my request this time and the book did not disappoint! It was funny, sweet, swoony….all the things I’ve come to expect from a Sarah Monzon sweet & clean romance.

Is this book sweet & clean?
Yes! Based on the standards that I use on this blog, I would qualify this book as sweet & clean.
Here’s what that means on Sweet & Clean Reads:
Sweet: the theme of the book is hopeful
Clean: the book is completely (or mostly) free of swearing, graphic violence, and sexually explicit content

I will note that there’s quite a bit of kissing in this book, but nothing too over the top. The whole vibe of the book is very sweet, PG, and Hallmark-y.
What is this sweet & clean romance about?
Here’s the official blurb for An Overdue Match from Amazon:
Can a librarian’s matchmaking mischief lead to a love that rewrites their stories?
If the covers of every romance book ever published didn’t convince librarian Evangeline Kelly that she isn’t heroine material, her fiancé calling off their wedding when she lost her hair to alopecia did. But what’s a girl head over heels for love to do when her feelings are unrequited? Matchmake, that’s what. Armed with library patrons’ check-out histories, she’s determined to make at least one love connection—even if it’s not her own.
Tattoo artist Tai Davis is used to people judging him with a single glance, so it doesn’t surprise him when the town’s quirky new librarian believes his bad-boy reputation without giving him a chance. He can’t help being intrigued by her, though, so when he discovers Evangeline’s secret matchmaking scheme, he’s not above striking a bargain with her. She just has to agree to one date with him for every time she uses his hometown knowledge to set up library patrons on a romantic rendezvous. The deal is made, but in the process, they both might learn you can’t judge a book—or each other—by the cover.

The Official Sweet Clean Reads Review:
An Overdue Match by Sarah Monzon is a book match made in literary heaven!
Evangeline, our heroine, opens the story with an emotional wound so deep you can feel her hurt radiating from the pages. I immediately empathized with her and found myself just as protective of her heart as she was.
But then Tai came along sigh his rakish flirting and his neck tattoos and oh my! I think I was rooting for him even more! It was hard to resist his Tai’s charm. I’m not sure how Evangeline did it, but once she finally let him love her it was so worth the wait!
Monzon crafts a beautiful story about learning to love and accept yourself, by first grounding your identity in Christ. Evangeline suffered with alopecia- an autoimmune disorder that causes hair loss. Monzon handled the topic with respect and gentleness. Never shying from the hard issues, but not weighing down the story with too many details.
I particularly enjoyed Evangeline’s (terrible) matchmaking attempts! It added a thread of humor to the story and gave our heroine a relatable flaw.
An Overdue Match is a solid sweet & clean romance featuring:
❤️ he falls first (and hard!)
❤️ bookish heroine
❤️ perceived bad boy (with a heart of gold)
❤️ insane chemistry
❤️ themes of faith, acceptance, and love
❤️ lots of kissing! 😘
Thank you to NetGalley and Bethany House for the advanced copy!
