Sweet Clean Reads Book Review: Meet Me In The Margins by Melissa Ferguson

Posted on April 28, 2025April 28, 2025 by sweetcleanreads

When I first came across Meet Me In The Margins by Melissa Ferguson it was marketed as a nostalgic, early 2000’s romcom with You’ve Got Mail vibes and my only response was – say less! It was an automatic add to my TBR, my only regret is that I didn’t read it sooner.

As a millennial, early 2000’s romcoms are my comfort movies and You’ve Got Mail might be in my top five favorite movies of all time.

And all of this is to say that going into this book I had high expectations, and it did not disappoint.

Every time I talk about this book on my Instagram page people either say “Oh I loved that!” or “That’s on my TBR” and I’m here to tell you that you if you fall into that second category – grab this book from your TBR, clear your schedule, and read it immediately!

Is this book sweet & clean?

It could literally be the poster child for sweet & clean romance. When I say “I want a sweet and clean romance” this is the kind of book I’m talking about.

And just to clarify, this is how I define sweet & clean on this blog:

Sweet: the theme of the book is hopeful (And you can read more about how I define sweet romance by clicking here.)

Clean: the book is completely (or mostly) free of swearing, graphic violence, and sexually explicit content (If you want to read more about how I define clean romance you can click here.)

What is this sweet & clean romance about?

Here’s the official blurb from Amazon:

Savannah Cade’s dreams are coming true. The Claire Donovan, editor-in-chief of the most successful romance publishing company in the country, has requested to see the manuscript Savannah’s been secretly writing. The only problem: she’s an editor for a different company, and their philosophy is only highbrow works are worth printing and romance should be reserved for the lowest level of Dante’s inferno.

But when Savannah drops her manuscript during a staff meeting and nearly exposes herself to the whole company–including William Pennington, the new boss and son of the romance-despising CEO herself–she has no choice but to hide the manuscript in a hidden room.

When she returns, she’s dismayed to discover that someone has not only been in her hidden nook but has written notes in the margins–quite critical ones. But when Claire’s own reaction turns out to be nearly identical to the scribbled remarks, and, worse, Claire announces that Savannah has six weeks to resubmit before she retires, Savannah finds herself forced to seek the help of the shadowy editor after all.

As their notes back and forth start to fill up the pages, however, Savannah finds him becoming pivotal not just to her work but her life. There’s no doubt about it: she’s falling for her mystery editor. If she only knew who he was.

The Official Sweet Clean Reads Review:

Utterly adorable, the poster child for a sweet & clean romance, I couldn’t put it down!

My only wish is that I had started this book the day I found it instead of letting it sit on my TBR for months!

Meet in the Margins has all the makings of a nostalgic late ’90s/early 2000’s romcom: humor, sweet moments, and unforgettable swoon.

I found it so easy to root for Savannah, even when I sometimes wanted to reach into the book, grab her by the shoulders and say “wake up, girl!” I loved her healing journey and how she learned to stand on her own two feet. The romance was so delicious, I could barely get enough. Will gave off this grumpy vibe (which I’m a sucker for in books) but he was so soft and sweet when you got to know him. He kept surprising Savannah – and me – and that ending was 🫠🫠🫠 (but no spoilers here, you’ll have to read to find out).

I cannot recommend Meet Me in the Margins enough! An easy five stars, and a top read for me so far this year!

Where can I find this sweet & clean romance?

Meet Me in the Margins is available on Amazon and great news, it’s currently part of the Kindle Unlimited program, which is how I started reading it and then promptly purchased it because it’s so cute!

You can also find it at your local library in eBook, paperback, and audio. The book is also available for purchase on other major retailer sites like Barnes & Noble.
