Posted on April 28, 2025April 28, 2025 by sweetcleanreads

You know when you just want a super sweet, historical romance with a swoony single dad and an Irish backdrop? Well, I’ve got you covered, because The Irish Matchmaker by Jennifer Deibel is the perfect book for such an occasion.

It’s got a bit of suspense, some really sweet moments, and an adorable little girl who can’t help but play matchmaker herself, and a feet-kicking romance that will keep you up past your bed time reading!

Is this book sweet & clean?

You know it! And what I loved about The Irish Matchmaker is that it featured strong themes of faith without feeling preachy or heavy.

Here’s what that means on Sweet & Clean Reads:

Sweet: the theme of the book is hopeful

Clean: the book is completely (or mostly) free of swearing, graphic violence, and sexually explicit content

What is this sweet & clean romance about?

Here’s the official blurb for The Irish Matchmaker form Amazon:

Making the perfect match is both art and science–but love doesn’t always follow the rules.

As daughter of a well-known matchmaker, Catríona Daly is no stranger to the business of love–and sees it as her ticket away from the sleepy village that only comes alive during the annual matchmaking festival. When Andrew, son of Lord Osborne, returns to the festival after being disappointed by a rival matchmaker’s failed setup, Catríona seizes the opportunity to make a better match for the handsome man–and for herself!

Cattle farmer Donal Bunratty is in desperate need of a wife after loss left him to handle the farm and raise his daughter on his own. Shy and lacking the finer social graces, he agrees to attend the matchmaking festival to fulfill his daughter’s birthday wish. But when he arrives, it’s not any of the other merrymakers that catch his eye but rather his matchmaker–who clearly has eyes for someone else.

Catríona will have to put all her expertise to work to make matches for the two men that could change their lives–and hers–forever. Will her plan succeed? Or will love have its own way?

The Official Sweet Clean Reads Review:

☘️Oh my how I loved this book. It was so light and sweet and heartwarming. Everything I could want in a sweet, historical romance set in Ireland.

One aspect I particularly loved was not just the elements of faith that were present, but the use of Scripture. The book never felt preachy, but actually using Scripture in the story was a breath of fresh air.

I loved the chemistry between Donal and Catriona. It was clear from the beginning that they were made for each other, despite Catriona’s attempts to matchmake Donal with someone else. Plus, we get a unique third POV from Donal’s young daughter- who does a little matchmaking of her own!

The Irish Matchmaker is an excellent choice for a sweet, clean read. Especially if you love historical romance set in Ireland.

p.s.- the audiobook is great and will help you pronounce all the names correctly!

Where can I find this sweet & clean romance?

I found this at my library, but of course it’s also available on Amazon in all formats. I do recommend that audio version, it will help you pronounce the Irish names and lingo!
